First World Feminism
What's the point of this website?

A fair question. Two quick answers:

1. Those of us lucky enough to live in the most progressive parts of the world tend to focus on how good we have it, and yet we still haven’t achieved true gender equality.

2. I’m over trying to pitch women’s magazines. If the story isn’t about slimmer thighs for summer, they’re just not interested.

This stuff is important, I’ll try not to make it too dry.

Five Interesting Takeaways from the 140 Conference

This week I’m focusing on my other passion (besides feminism): new media. I attended the 140 Conference in New York City yesterday and thought I’d share 5 social media takeaways that apply to feminist bloggers as well as brands aiming to reach women.

1. Principles of effective relationships on & offline: You can’t have intimacy without vulnerability. - @AndreaSyrtash

2. “Twitter touches on the core goodness of people.” - @AnnCurry She specifically spoke about how strangers help each other via Twitter in times of disaster and crisis.

3. Embrace “collabetition.” Collaborate with like-minded competitors. - @hankwasiak

4. “The more you share, the more you’re found. The more you’re found, the better you do.” - @JessicaGottlieb

5. Stop looking at ROI (Return on Investment), start looking at ROR (Return on Relationships). - @tedrubin
