First World Feminism

What's the point of this website?

A fair question. Two quick answers:

1. Those of us lucky enough to live in the most progressive parts of the world tend to focus on how good we have it, and yet we still haven’t achieved true gender equality.

2. I’m over trying to pitch women’s magazines. If the story isn’t about slimmer thighs for summer, they’re just not interested.

This stuff is important, I’ll try not to make it too dry.

A Simple and Powerful Political Art Project

The Canadian arts4choice collective is a group of artists and activists that aim to humanize the pro-choice movement. Their current project consists of documentary portraits of all types of women who have had abortions. The goal is a traveling exhibition and book of photographs that will be in clinics and women’s centers around the country. I’m humbled by the bravery of the women who posed for these portraits and recorded their stories. I’d like to think I’d be this brave. I doubt I would be.
