First World Feminism
What's the point of this website?

A fair question. Two quick answers:

1. Those of us lucky enough to live in the most progressive parts of the world tend to focus on how good we have it, and yet we still haven’t achieved true gender equality.

2. I’m over trying to pitch women’s magazines. If the story isn’t about slimmer thighs for summer, they’re just not interested.

This stuff is important, I’ll try not to make it too dry.

PepsiCo released a controversial iPhone app for its new energy drink, Amp. (The tagline reads: “AMP UP before you score.”)

Its purpose is to help men pick up any one of 24 types of women, including “Sorority Girl,” “Trouble” and “Rebound Girl.” The app not only offers helpful information, like where to find the nearest vegan restaurant for “Treehugger,” and pick up lines, but it also encourages users who “score” to post personal information about the girl for their pals via Facebook and Twitter.

The app came out on Friday, PepsiCo tweeted an apology on Monday, and as of today the app is still available for purchase in the iTunes store.
