First World Feminism

What's the point of this website?

A fair question. Two quick answers:

1. Those of us lucky enough to live in the most progressive parts of the world tend to focus on how good we have it, and yet we still haven’t achieved true gender equality.

2. I’m over trying to pitch women’s magazines. If the story isn’t about slimmer thighs for summer, they’re just not interested.

This stuff is important, I’ll try not to make it too dry.

Beer Isn't Going to Make People Like Tucker Max's Movie

NOW’s Young Feminist Task Force (YFTF) tears I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell apart, along with the message board Tucker Max put up making fun of North Carolina State protesters of the film. He ran a competition for the best photoshopped signs from the protest, one of which read: “Women deserve to call rape ‘surprise sex.’” The men in Max’s target demographic that YFTF interview are frustrated that this film and its promotion make men look like they perceive sex as violent and adversarial, and they find the messages to be dangerously misogynistic.
